Ian Joseph Lloyd

11.5.1939 – 28.6.2010

On Wednesday, 14th July 2010 at All Saints & St Margaret, Pakefield, Sufolk, a well attended funeral service took place for Ian Lloyd, a well established ringer at Pakefield. Many family members and friends gathered to say their farewells after his sudden death. Ringers from local towers that Ian had visited rang before and after the service.

Ian started to learn to ring in 1980 at Pakefield under the tutelage of Peter Kindred. He became a steady ringer, doing his homework and encouraging others in the skills of change ringing. After Peter died Ian took over the role of tower captain and taught bell handling to a number of youngsters. Ian was always willing to try quarter and full peals and to help with training days for the N.D.A.

As well as ringing Ian had many musical talents; he played the piano and was a key member of Pakefield church choir. Later he joined the Lowestoft Choral Society and played a key part in the newly formed Pakefield Singers. Ian was supportive in the church services and many times took the Compline Service on New Year’s Eve. A family man, even though his own children had left the area, he enjoyed family holidays, walking and the occasional game of golf.

Ian was always a gentle man and a gentleman; he will be missed.
