Alan Parrott

Alan was taught to handle a bell in Uckfield after an Uncle who lived in Youlgrave, had introduced him to the hobby and had taken him up the tower where he rang. Much later whilst walking up North Hill, Colchester and on hearing St Peter’s bells ringing, Alan decided to pop his head round the door. Here he was welcomed and urged to become a tower member and Essex Association member. This he did from 2002 joining in quarters and the Essex course when his health allowed. At St Leonard’s Hythe Hill  he was delegated to position of clock winder and bell maintenance person.

Alan dedicated a lot of time and energy to teaching people to handle a bell, and was always willing to give a hand whenever required. His quiet unflappable temperament gave confidence to those he was teaching and he is fondly remembered by his pupils, particularly at Wivenhoe. He sadly passed away on 8th March 2011. A quarter was rung at St Peter’s thanking for the life of.
