Great Malvern Priory, Consistory Court Judgement
On Monday, 9th March we heard the news that, following a consistory court hearing, the Chancellor of the Diocese of Worcester, Charles Mynors, has declined to grant a faculty for the replacement of the bell frame at Great Malvern Priory.
Dorothy L. Sayers still helping young ringers
The Ladies’ Guild has been the fortunate recipient of an Award from the Dorothy L. Sayers society for a young ringer to attend the Hereford Course. Miss Sayers was an honorary member of the Guild and learned to ring with them in order to be able to write her crime novel The Nine Tailors in the 1930s.

Leading quarter peal ringers 2008
There are a record 192 ringers on this year’s list of Leading Quarter Peal Ringers – as submitted by the ringers themselves. That is an increase of 7 on last year’s total which itself was a record. 76 people achieved 100 or more quarters during the twelve months – 9 more than last year.
Reflections on change-ringing and carillons by Geoff D. Armitage
As one of the "staff" on the British Carillon Society stand for both days of the Stoneleigh Road Show, I was amazed – and heartened – by constant flow of visitors we received, as well as by the sale of a substantial number of carillon CDs. Of course, the excellent verbal explanations and the superb playing of Boudewijn Zwart on his mobile carillon stimulated a huge amount of interest, especially as the audiences were able to see the instrument and the carillonneur at such close quarters.

All the President’s men (and women) by Meredith Morris
Traditionally, the Washington Ringing Society has rung for the presidential inaugural parade, but as security looms ever larger, being in the Old Post Office tower is an increasingly tenuous proposition. Immediately after the election last November, Haley Barnett, our ringing master, began seeking permission for us to ring. After many, many telephone calls and email messages to the Armed Forces Inaugural Committee, the Presidential Inaugural Committee, and the Secret Service, persistence prevailed and we had permission to ring with some daunting caveats.

A vicar had complained that his church was listed in Dove and in the YACR annual report without his permission.
Thought for the week
The old ringers in the tower where I ring must have received a good classical education because we have on the wall a small plaque written in Latin: AUDI VIDE TACE. Those who have been educated in the modern manner need to know that this is good advice and means: Listen; Look; Keep Silent.
Bells of St Magnus consecrated
Tuesday, 3rd March saw the consecration of the first new ring of 12 bells in the City of London since the bomb-damaged bells at St Mary-le-Bow were replaced in 1956.
