St Mary’s Yatton, North Somerset
Centenary of the first peal on the bells by a local band – ‘Perseverance is crowned with success’
St Mary’s Church, Yatton has had a peal of 8 bells since 1824. Ringing records in the tower show that the first peal on the bells by a local band of ringers from Yatton tower was rung on Tuesday, 23rd February 1909. A splendid peal board in the tower records this event along with the names of the ringers that took part.

From the E-Lists A round-up from the internet compiled by John Camp
Roger Bailey commented that he had now experienced most Anglican ceremonies except Exorcism and Burial at Sea. Easily arranged, Roger!

William Byrd’s composition The Bells by John R. Ketteringham
I was very interested in Steve Coleman’s article which was published in issue 5095/6 pp.1323-5.
William Byrd’s first professional appointment was as organist and choirmaster at Lincoln Cathedral in 1563 when he would be in his early 20s.

The budding tower collector – difficult decisions! Part 3 of Graham Nabb’s series
So our budding tower collector is keen to get started on their, mission – they will soon find it is not as easy as they thought. There are critical decisions to be made. What is a bell? How must it ring? How big must it be? How many others must ring with me? How must it be hung? How long must I ring for?

Ladies’ Guild receive Young Ringer’s Award from the Dorothy L. Sayers Society
Saturday, 21st March 2009 was a beautiful sunny day on which to go ringing in Cambridgeshire. It was a specially happy day because the Dorothy L. Sayers Society (DLS) was making a young ringer’s award to a member of the Ladies Guild.
