Badgeworth, Gloucestershire – The bells are ringing again
by D. M. Turner, Tower Captain

watercolour of church

The problems at Badgeworth started a long time ago. Whilst I have experienced more difficult bells to ring I had never before, or after, had to ask for a quarter to be stood up due to my inability to control and strike the bell well enough.

The oldest of our bells dates from 1634, the others being 1635, 1729, 1735, 1830 and 1868: collectively regarded and loved by the locals as “the sound of Badgeworth”. The oak frame that housed them was made by Charles Jaques of Gloucester in 1791.
