Snippets from the Central Council PRC meeting of 7th July

  • The roadshow is coming on apace! Whitechapel have stepped up early with sponsoring a room. Who else wants to name a room for the day? 6th September 2014 at Newbury – come and try you hand at a variety of things ... maybe even abseiling? And keep the logos coming in.
  • The CC has a Facebook and Twitter presence. More on these later, for an official launch, but they’re not hard to find and you could have a quick ‘gander’.
  • Loads of ideas of Things To Ring For are being added to the CC website. Always worth a look, not just to stick a footnote on a quarter, but more importantly to get some local PR if you tell your community beforehand. things-to-ring-for/
  • In 2014 we have the centenary of the start of WWI to mark, and there is a strong feeling that half muffled ringing will be most appropriate.
  • 2015 sees the 800th anniversary of the signing of Magna Carta (hands up anyone like me, who went to the wrong school and had to look up what this was!). There are loads of local connections to places where the 25 ‘Barons’ came from. Plenty more on this later.
  • The Tour de France is going through, well, Yorkshire actually, and there will be plenty of ringing publicity as the local bells ring and cyclists speed through.
  • And finally: to help communication between the council and its constituent guilds, associations and societies, there is a new ‘societies’ mailing list, for the CC secretary and committee chairmen to post messages out to all general secretaries.
