We were delighted to hear that Mrs Betty Baines of Diss, Norfolk was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours – “For services to Bell Ringing in Norfolk and North Suffolk”.

Betty, who has rung for more than 50 years, is a member of the band at St Mary’s Church, Diss and is a past President of the Ladies’ Guild of Change Ringers. On the BBC News Norfolk website she is quoted as saying “It feels fantastic, it’s an amazing feeling,” and “It’s also an amazing coincidence as my brother George, who lives in Sussex, got the MBE in last year’s honours list for farming and charity work”.
